Happy Birthday Toni!

Happy birthday to my cute mama. It’s been such a long, long time since I held her hand and we laughed together. Mom was vibrant and beautiful and found joy in living each moment. She loved people, the color red, calligraphy, dachshunds and all pups, nature, family, and geraniums. Mostly she loved me and my brothers more than anything and we knew it. What lovely memories I have of her. I hope heaven is singing to her right now. I’m sure she is laughing with her big beautiful smile and dancing with her people.

A medium sized TH Etcetera Thickboard tag is the base for this make. Two different pieces of TH Paper Stash paper were cut to size, inked in Pumice Stone distress ink around the edges, and collaged onto the front and back. A selection of ephemera tags and pieces were edged with Pumice Stone distress ink and glued on. The Thickboard tag circle was glued over the hole at the top. Red frayed fabric ribbon is looped through the hole a couple of times and tied in a knot.

I printed a picture of mom from when she was around 2 years old on muslin. If you’ve never done this it’s quite simple. First, iron the muslin onto freezer paper cut to size. Afterwards run it through a printer – my inkjet printer worked great but you can also use a laser. Finally, carefully peel the freezer paper off.

One of the flowers from TH Floral Outlines is stamped in candied apple distress ink on the bottom right corner. Over the top of that is stamped some cursive in Pumice Stone distress ink, after which, I glued some more pieces of ephemera in a few more places. An old fashion frame from a TH Halloween set is lightly sanded on the edges and top to age it. I die cut some flowers from watercolor paper using TH Wildflowers #1. With distress spray stains candied apple red, lumberjack red, and rustic wilderness I sprayed the flowers and greenery. Gathered in a bunch they are glued to the left side of the frame. More of the red ribbon from my stash is tied around the bottom and knotted on the left side over the flowers.

After measuring where I wanted the frame and photo, I used a double-sided tape to adhere the photo to the tag and put the frame over the top with more double-sided tape. On a loop pin is a heart and 3 and 7 metal numbers for the year mom was born. To the right side I added a little ephemera letter and calligraphy nib. I attached the pin to the knot and let dangle. On another loop pin I slid a 2 and the word joyful on and attached to the bow at the top. Anyone that knew mom said she was happy and joyful from day one.

Candied apple distress paint is wiped across a quote tag and left to let dry for only a minute or two and then wiped off leaving the paint in the recesses of the letters. Natural seam binding is run through the side loops and then wrapped around the tag and glued to the back. The last piece added is a small tag typed on the computer with mom’s name and age, and a silver star glued to the side.

Since a young age I have loved looking at old family photos, but this make makes me the happiest.

Thanks for coming by.
